artsweek ’19rev9 2A work of miniature masterpieces from community members. All pieces are no bigger than A6. This is also the launch of Arts in the Tawe Valley’s Annual Art Week Private View 7-10pm Friday 7th June 2019. All welcome.

A close relationship with the Gower coast has provoked an on-going series of work, most recently paintings have been inspired by the poetry of Vernon Watkins, the Welsh metaphysical poet who also lived on the coast of Gower. The concept of space, both actual and pictorial, implications of time and space, movement through shifting tidelines, weather and light materialise in these paintings.

Our Winter Celebrations Exhibition from Arts in the Tawe Valley members will open on 2nd November at 7pm  and celebrate the winter season with a variety of works. All works are for sale and we look forward to seeing you either at the opening or during the exhibition.

‘Into the World’ an exploration of the natural world brought to you with the union of both traditional and experimental felt making. 10% of all proceeds go to the charity ‘HEADWAY’

Private View: Friday 27th April 7pm – 10pm. ‘Four Seasons’ – Is an installation of paintings inspired by the seasons in South Wales. Amanda Loves the natural beauty here in Wales and has painted a selection of new paintings to celebrate this. Her inspiration comes from local places she visits. This exhibition showcases not only the work of Amanda Dagg but also includes selected works from Arts in the Tawe Valley members in the shop area. The exhibition runs until the 18th June

Artist Statement
“When I paint I feel my heart opens with a love of life. I’m deeply inspired by nature and I’m passionately driven in developing uplifting paintings that are enriched with a positive and energetic vibe. Every morning I awake full of gratitude to be able to follow my heart and paint and can’t ever imagine my life without painting.

My inspiration comes from my childhood, nature, flowers, bird watching, long walks, the changing seasons, exploring forests, gazing at the stars, climbing mountains, meditating, swimming in the sea and lazy days in wild meadows. I have an ever-evolving gallery of paintings from welsh landscapes, wildflowers, forests, butterflies, nature and the sea.

Paintings are created with love, using a variety of mixed media, acrylics, oils, inks and textural pastes. I adore creating tactile paintings which are begging to be touched. It’s a delight working on a blank canvas seeing my painting emerge from the raw to the organic state. I’m a prolific painter and over the 10 years I’ve sold over 3000 paintings; online, at art exhibitions and art galleries to collectors in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Cyprus, Rome, Greece, Malaysia, Spain Malta and Ireland. These hang in private homes, nightclubs, churches and restaurants. One of my clients is a premier league football player.”

Arts in the Tawe Valley’s annual art competition begins on 2nd March from 7pm – 10pm at the Oriel Lliw Gallery in the Pontardawe Arts Centre when the public voting begins. You have until the 6th April to view the work and vote for your favourite pieces. On the 6th April the judges will be voting and prizes for all the winners will be awarded. The exhibition runs until 23rd April.

Judges this year are:

Rose Davies AKA Rosie Scibblah – “artist, scribbler, printmaker, blogger, headbanger, cakemaker, mudwrangler, madcatwoman, wild, Welsh and opinionated. Graduating from Art College at the end of the 70’s, I survived punk, post-modernism and the rise of Thatcherism with my belief in traditional art values and particularly drawing, intact. Majoring in printmaking, I continued to draw after leaving college, but like many other struggling young artists at that time, I developed a secondary career, spending years working with severely damaged and excluded people, which has had a profound influence on my art.”

Peter Finnemore, Is an artist working within photographic art, multi media installation and video. He has represented Wales in the Venice Bienale and won accolades in the National Eisteddfod. His work is in public and private collections in Wales, Scotland, England, Belgium and the USA. He is artist, lecturer, visiting professor and all round ‘good guy’.

John Abel – John is a prolific painter and print maker ‘My aim through work is to represent human feeling as honestly as I can with no intellectual mediation, in an effort to understand myself.’ Abell was born in Cardiff in 1986 and graduated from Camberwell college of art + design in 2009. He has exhibited widely and his prints + publications are included in museums, libraries + national collections worldwide, including the Victoria & Albert museum, National Museum of wales, the British Museum, the National Library of Australia, the National Library of Canada and Columbia University library, new york. We are very happy to welcome him!

‘Hidden Voices’ an exhibition by Eleanor Flaherty & Paul Steer is opening at the Oriel Lliw Gallery on Friday 12th January at 7pm.

This multimedia exhibition has seen the Artists exploring the western Brecon Beacons, from wooded valleys to the remains of industry and the dark underground world. Books and postcards of the exhibition will be available to purchase from the Gallery.

‘There are voices in the landscape that lie hidden until we seek them out. Voices that tell of a different world at the edges of our imagination and underneath our feet.’ Paul and Eleanor were interviewed about their work and the creation of this exhibition. We are very excited to announce it’s been nearly a year since we launched the Oriel Lliw gallery at the Pontardawe Art Centre!

To celebrate we will be having a private view and birthday celebrations on 7pm – 10pm Friday 11th November. This is a great event for our community to showcase the wealth of art on offer from our Arts in the Tawe members.So if you are looking for a unique gift look no further!
