The group formed under the umbrella of Neath Port Talbot adult education 2010. Tutored by Trefenna Collins the group met in Neath YMCA during the term time. As enthusiasm for painting and drawing grew the group met additionally in a local community centre which was able to accommodate them during both term times and school holidays.

group-2Local authority funding became an issue in 2014 and the original group became financially unviable, with Trefenna Collins, unfortunately retiring as tutor. However the group carried on in the community centre and although some of the original members have left, new members have come on board.

The Purple Art group holds an annual week-long exhibition in the autumn, in the small gallery situated in Victoria Gardens Neath. The name of the group was decided by the original group as Trefenna would urge the group to ‘use more purple!’
